Create a multibody sheet metal part from multiple sheet metal bodies or a combination of sheet metal bodies and and other bodies such as weldments using SolidWorks.

Setting up Parts and Assembly Files:

• Open a part file –» File –» Make Assembly from Part –» OK –» select the part file –» OK –» Save –»
• In the assembly –» Insert –» Component –» New Part –» select the Virtual part from Manager Tree –» Rename it as part name with .01mm offset (Ex: multibody.01mm offset) –» OK –» RMC the part name from Manager Tree –» select Save Part (in External File) –» OK –» Save the assembly –»

Creating Offset Surface: To create offset surface geometry –»

• Continue from the assembly above –» Select Multibody.01mm offset part (from Manager Tree) –» Assembly –» Edit Component –» Ctrl + select only important surfaces that had complex geometries that are hard to construct –» Insert –» Surface –» Offset –» Distanct = .01 –» OK –»
• Select the Part file from Manager Tree –» RMC –» Hide Components –»

Establishing Solid Geometry:

• Knit Surface: Continue from the assembly above –» select part (from ManagerTree) –» Edit Part –» expand Surface Bodies folder (from ManagerTree) to knit the surfaces –» Surface tab –» select Knit Surface –» Ctrl + select surfaces to knit –» select Merge entities –» OK –»
